Baking soda is a great ingredient to be included in toothpaste, but baking soda on its own is not a replacement for toothpaste. To keep your teeth strong and healthy and prevent cavities, you need fluoride, which baking soda does not provide. Most toothpastes contain fluoride, so chose one that you prefer. Baking soda in fluoride toothpaste is a better alternative to just baking soda because it helps to clean your teeth and can also help keep your mouth feeling fresh (without the harsh aftertaste of baking soda alone).
Baking soda can be quite abrasive to the tooth and wear down the enamel, causing sensitivity. So yes, baking soda can be used as toothpaste but we suggest one with fluoride as well. Be sure to read the box and make sure it is ADA (American Dental Association) approved and contains fluoride.
