Can I Use Baking Soda as Toothpaste?

Baking soda is a great ingredient to be included in toothpaste, but baking soda on its own is not a replacement for toothpaste. To keep your teeth strong and healthy and prevent cavities, you need fluoride, which baking soda does not provide. Most toothpastes contain fluoride, so chose one that you prefer. Baking soda in fluoride toothpaste is a better alternative to just baking soda because it helps to clean your teeth and can also help keep your mouth feeling fresh (without the harsh aftertaste of baking soda alone).

Baking soda can be quite abrasive to the tooth and wear down the enamel, causing sensitivity. So yes, baking soda can be used as toothpaste but we suggest one with fluoride as well. Be sure to read the box and make sure it is ADA (American Dental Association) approved and contains fluoride.

I have had multiple visits to 5 Mile Smiles and they have always been great!!! I highly recommend seeing this office for ALL your dental needs!

Great service, easy to get an appointment, staff was very informative on what work was being done and if I had pain during the procedure. They seem to have very new equipment which makes procedures faster and more effective than other offices in town.

I JUST LOVE THESE GUYS !!! I was never an ideal patient, so frightened of a dentist until I found 5 Mile Smiles. The extraordinary quality of their work matches the entire teams' compassion & care. Outstanding!

The staff was very kind and welcoming and my appointment was on time.

Dr. Keefe and his team were awesome, and I was in and out of there much quicker than I’d anticipated.

Best dentist I have been to!!! The staff is awesome and got me in while I was on vacation to fix a crown. I would highly recommend.
