What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a natural sweetener and it can be found in many berries, fruits and vegetables, and now even some chewing gum. And it can even help you keep your smile healthy. Xylitol helps create saliva which in turn helps fight cavities. Xylitol doesn’t act like sugar when in your mouth. Bacteria in the mouth, when mixed with sugar, will produce an acid that breaks down your enamel. With xylitol, the bacteria cannot produce acid.

Using xylitol as a sweetener instead of sugar will trim down calories and help prevent tooth decay. Xylitol is not an artificial sweetener or chemical like aspartame. Pure Xylitol looks and tastes like sugar; however, it is an all-natural sweetener with about 40% fewer calories than sugar. Daily use of xylitol in relation to oral care has shown extraordinary effectiveness.

Xylitol’s non carcinogenic structure keeps it from being metabolized by bacteria which stops the production of tooth-decay causing acid. By using 100% xylitol products throughout the day, bacteria is prevented from creating the acids that damage the teeth. Regular use of Xylitol products prevent plaque from sticking to teeth. Which in turn protects the mouth between brushing and flossing for both adults and children.
